Onderhoud

Peruvian Hand Woven Rugs and Tapestries The Ayacucho rugs and tapestries are woven on a traditional twin pedal loom with lambs wool. The textiles are dyed using natural dyes that also include a special anti-moth deterrent.
Andean tapestries are impressive for bold design, brilliant color, and exquisite craftsmanship. This immediate impression belies a vast body of information below the surface, data that might suggest material selection, production techniques, regional trade, cultural borrowing, innovation, workshops, artist's hand, and ultimately provenance. These data are important because most of the world's collections of Andean textiles contain minimal documentation of original source. But art historians regularly eschew these technical aspects for theoretical discussions or surface evaluations concerning color patterning, design relationships, and iconographic programs.
The textiles of today have inherited a legacy of ancient pre-Hispanic tradition combined with Incan images. The Ayacucho region produces many beautiful textiles and was influenced by the Nazca and Paracas people who were even before the Incas. The Ayacucho region of Peru produces tapestries using wool of both sheep and alpaca which produces a very soft texture and longer yarns. The tapestries contain symbolic images including birds, butterflies, and flowers that are from the Andean culture over many centuries. Peruvian textiles are diverse in their techniques and array of colors. Using a variety of vegetal and animal dyes, as well as minerals found in the region, there are close to 200 dyes available to use for the weaving of tapestries. Although they can be placed on the floor, because of their soft texture, they are better as wall decor or even as a throw on a bed. If you have a special requests for tapestries, we are more than happy to search for a similar work by the artist if it is not shown on our site.
